Min tydning:
[O]n the 9th July, on board the Siamese
[barque]ue Senator, Capt. Wewezer, having a
[Mal]ay crew on board, and lying at anchor
[at t]he Menan roads, occurred one of the
[wo]rst attempts to commit murder that we
[had] ever known Malays to be guilty of.
[On] that day, for disobedience of orders
[?]an open attempt to stab the mate of
[the] ship, Capt. Wewezer ordered his surang
[?] administer one dozen lashes to the
[?]ab, which after at first refusing, he did
[in a] very languid manner. This annoyed
[the] Captain, who thereupon gave the sur-
[ang] a few cuts with a rope’s end. The
[su]ang, now excited to revenge, callede the
[??] aft, who came armed with knives
[han]dspikes and pieces of firewood. In the
[mea]ntime the Capt. ran down for his re-
[volv]er and fired several shots, to attract
[the] attension of the rest of the shipping,
[whi]ch proceeding, we have no doubt, ul-
[tim]ately saved his life. The crew rushed
[at] the poop, knocked down the mate sense-
lens by the Captain’s side, the Suang
[??]stched the revolver from the Captain’s
hand, while the crew made a rope fast
round his neck, at this point of the proceed-
ing the mutinity were interupted by the
arrival of assistance, in the shape of a num-
ber of Captains and Pilots from the other
shipping, who after a determined resistance
on the part of the crew, succeeded in put-
ting them in irons and conveyed them on
board of the Pilot Schooner, in which vessel
they where taken to Bangkok and delivered
over to Capt. Amen, commissioner of police.
When the Surang beheld assistance coming,
he having hold of the Captain by the throat,
exclaimed, ”The mate is killed, now let us
kill the Captain.” He then drew his knife
and made a down stab for the Captain’s
head, which the later received on the open
palm of his left hand, inflicting a fearful
gash. The next moment, Mr Surang found
himself firmly grappled and held by Capt.
Nohman, of the siamese barque Success.
We are in hopes that our worthly Harbour-
master will not allow this oppotunity to
slip through his fingers of making a stern
example of the future benefit of Malay
crown.
